Former Lexington Technical School Up for Auction

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — A former Fayette County technical school is up for auction.

According to Schrader Commercial Properties and Tranzon Asset Advisors, the district is selling the former Southside Technical School located at 1800 Harrodsburg Road.

Southside Technical Center was originally constructed in 1976 and served thousands of students for over 49 years. The facility was retired in 2025, when FCPS centralized all technical education facilities at The Hub for Innovative Learning and Leadership at 100 Midland Avenue, which opened in August 2025.

“FCPS has declared the property to be surplus, and it will be offered for sale through a sealed bid auction process,” the announcement read. “The property consists of a 40,518+/- square-foot facility situated on approximately 4.83+/- acres with direct access off of three busy and highly visible roadways.”

Fayette County Schools reportedly declared the property a surplus and approved Schrader Commercial Properties and Tranzon Asset Advisors’ sale plan in January.

The auction will be conducted through sealed bids. Bids are due on or before Tuesday, May 5, to the brokerage firms, with scheduled inspections planned for April 21 and April 28, or by pre-scheduled appointment.
